Message from Our Team

Dear Parents and Supporters,

Spring is in the air! With only one week off for spring break, this is the shortest break of the academic year. It is important that students consider how little time they have to get recharged and prepared for next quarter as there is far less time to detach, decompress and feel refreshed before starting a new quarter.

We understand that some students may choose to travel over break and we ask for your help in encouraging them to take the proper precautions to help stop the spread of COVID-19, including wearing a mask, continuing to practice social distancing, and avoiding crowds. Please visit the CDC spring break travel guide for information on safe travel during the pandemic.

Is your student staying in SLO for spring break? Learn about the many fun activities and special offerings available during their staycation. Regardless of where they spend the break, students who are required to participate in Cal Poly’s ongoing testing program need to continue to do so, even if they are out of the area.

Enjoy this month’s edition of Poly Parent News.

Sincerely,
Parent and Family Programs Team

Spring Quarter Student Testing Compliance Enforcement

The university will begin enforcement of ongoing COVID-19 testing and compliance requirements for students beginning March 29. Students are required to test twice per week by following the testing schedule outlined in the COVID-19 Info tab on their portal. Those who are not in compliance will receive warnings before they lose access to applications and services that may impact their ability to attend class or report for on-campus employment. Learn more.

Spring Break Housing Updates

Whether your student is staying on campus or headed out, please let University Housing know by having them complete the Spring Break Survey in their portal. Knowing who is on campus during breaks helps the university keep an eye out for residents and makes it easier to contact residents in the event of an emergency. Is your student moving into housing this spring? Visit the Spring 2021 Mustang Move-In page. Learn more.

The power of believing that you can improve | Carol Dweck

Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain's capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? This video is a great introduction to this influential field. Watch the video.
